My paintings question perception and are about visual play and the physical properties of paint. They are built through flat looking layers, and progressively gain more dimension as layers are added, but never really become illusionistic. I am building these compositions in a playful way that indicates structure but doesn’t really commit to it, and am working with patterns and language. I am also covering up early layers in the painting to obscure the way I’ve gotten to the final stage, so the pattern is harder to follow. This paint language is how I relate to image construction and perception.
